Enhance comprehension by asking higher level questions! Once a week, your child will come home with a short paragraph to read. How can you assist? I'm trying out a new way to get our students to ask higher level questions and need your help. During dinner discussions, if you could model higher level questioning based on the short paragraph your child brought home, it would be a great way to have rich and deep conversstations centered around what your child is learning in school. I will send home a newletter with the Depth of Knowledge question stems to assist in asking those higher level questions. These are the same ones that your child is using in multiple content area classes. Research shows that students who question before, during and after reading increase comprehension of text. Also, those who ask higher level questions deeper their thinking and understanding. I'm excited about this and look forward to our parntership in advancing your childs comprehesnion.
